Welcome

PhotoAssist provides a full range of editorial services, from photo research and rights-and-permissions clearances to copywriting, editing, and fact-checking. Our unique specialty is an expertise in image research and management: we locate photographs and other images, digitize and catalog them, and maintain a searchable image database.

Since our founding in 1989, our clients have included museums, magazines, government agencies, major publishing houses, and best-selling authors. If you’re working on a creative project, PhotoAssist can help.

“The amount of time and depth of research required to compile a solid inventory of photos was beyond the scope of our small staff, so we looked to PhotoAssist to do the work for us. We were very pleased with the results and believe our inductees and visitors are, too.”

Eddie Webb, President, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame

“We have worked with PhotoAssist for many years. The experience has been uniformly positive. They handle everything on our annual projects, from soup to nuts. We rely on them, and we are never disappointed.”

Phil Friedman, Former Publisher, Collins Reference

“PhotoAssist has helped me find fresh illustrations for two books. They offer plenty of choices, handle negotiations and invoicing, and deliver final selections organized on CDs. They’re an ideal service for a professional writer.”

Richard Rhodes, recipient of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction

“I’m very happy with the support I have received from PhotoAssist. They allow me to concentrate on taking photos and not be burdened with following up on model releases, property rights, and research. They’re a dream come true.”

Sally Andersen-Bruce, photographer for numerous U.S. postage stamps, including Antique Toys

“PhotoAssist is a one-of-a-kind organization in its ability to provide research and visual resources for artists treating technical subjects. When you’re making postage-stamp art that will be seen by millions and become part of America’s history, it’s reassuring to have that kind of research backing you up.”
